1 Kings 17:8 to 17:16 God cares for our needs and faithfully provides when we trust him and share with others. Discover how God sent Elijah to the home of a poor widow in Zarephath. See how the widow shared her very last meal in faith. Marvel at God's miracle: the jar of flour was not spent, and the jug of oil did not run dry. There was a terrible drought in Israel with no rain for many months. God commanded Elijah to go to Zarephath, where a widow would feed him. A Little Flour and a Little Oil Because it had not rained for a very long time, crops had dried up and water was scarce. God told the prophet Elijah to go to a town called Zarephath. When Elijah arrived at the city gate, he saw a poor widow gathering sticks. Elijah called out: 'Please bring me a little water to drink and a morsel of bread in your hand.' Making Bread for the Prophet First The woman looked worried and replied: 'As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering sticks to prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.' But Elijah said: 'Do not fear. Go make a little cake for me first, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son. For the Lord says, the jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty!' The Jar That Never Ran Out The widow trusted God's promise. She went home, mixed the handful of flour and oil, and baked a little cake for Elijah. And a wonderful miracle took place! The jar of flour was never spent, and the jug of oil never ran dry, day after day, week after week! Elijah, the widow, and her son ate plenty of fresh warm bread every single day. God faithfully provided for their needs. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 What did the widow have left in her house when Elijah met her? What happened to the jar of flour and jug of oil when she shared with Elijah? They broke immediately They never ran empty day after day They turned into stone A bird carried them away They never ran empty day after day God performed a miracle so the flour and oil never ran out. What does this miracle teach us about God? God provides for all our needs when we trust him God only helps rich kings God does not care about food We should never share God provides for all our needs when we trust him God is our faithful Provider who cares for our daily needs.
