John the Baptist is Martyred by Herod Antipas at Machaerus

Imprisoned in the clifftop desert fortress of Machaerus for reproving Herod Antipas over his unlawful marriage to Herodias, John the Baptist was executed when Herod made a rash oath following the dance of Herodias’s daughter at his birthday gala, ordering John beheaded and his head presented on a platter.
