Following the miraculous defeat of the southern coalition at Gibeon where the sun stood still, the five allied Amorite kings (Adoni-zedek of Jerusalem, Hoham of Hebron, Piram of Jarmuth, Japhia of Lachish, and Debir of Eglon) flee and hide in a cave at Makkedah; Joshua orders large stones rolled against the cave mouth, finishes routing the retreating Canaanites, and opens the cave to execute righteous judgment.
Date: c. 1405 BC · Note: Immediately followed the battle of Gibeon and the miraculous hailstorm at Azekah.
